Miles Morales, your other friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, is getting ready to step back onto the movie screen in the sequel to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
Into The Spider-Verse is confirmed to have begun production, but it looks like no other details have been shared so far beyond that. Animator Nick Kondo went on Twitter and made the announcement earlier today, and reports explain that the movie is set to be released in 2022, and plenty of excitement behind is of course expected. The fact that the first movie is a Oscar winner and raised the bar for animated superhero movies everywhere speaks for itself.

Here are some hints of what the sequel could be about, as well as which spider-heroes could be appearing.
Into The Spider-Verse… Again
In the end credits of the 1st movie, we learned Miguel O’Hara, who is the Spider-Man of 2099, has created his own dimension-hopping device and has gone to the dimension of the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon. There is a chance we will see more of this web-slinger in the sequel.
The movie also showed that Miles has been able to keep in contact with the other Spiders, such as Spider-Gwen and Penny Parker. Into The Spider-Verse‘s sequel was confirmed to explore the relationship between Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, and it will be fun to see how the movie explains not only a long distance relationship but also a long distance dimensional bond.
Plus, if Spider-Man 2099 is in the next movie, it will be interesting how the two will deal with this spider from the future.
The completed film is still a good while away, and the timeline has been pushed further back due to the impact of COVID-19. But the fact that the work on the movie hasn’t slowed down since the shutdown is a great sign that the people working on Spider-Man want Miles Morales back on our screens and aren’t letting events stop them. May they continue to stay the course and produce another award-worthy film.
If you are still expecting any appearances from the live action spider-man movies like Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland, don’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen this time around. Sony Pictures made the choice not include any cameos from them in the first flick, but perhaps the power of fans could change that for the next picture.
