In 1997, Batman and Robin was released and for better or worse the movie has left its mark in comic book movie history. The superhero romp will be known for its rolling list of negative reviews and comments. However actress Alicia Silverstone, who donned the cape and mask as Batgirl in the movie, is up for returning to the role.

Batman and Robin brought Barbara Gordon to the big-screen but in this version, she was Barbara Pennyworth, niece to Bruce Wayne’s trusted butler, Alfred. During the course of the film, she discovered the secret identity of the caped crusaders and went on to join them in the fight. Batman and Robin got a lot of Razzie awards and Silverstone was not an exception. She won a Razzie for Worst Supporting Actress, but on the flipside, she was nominated for a Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Award for Favorite Movie Actress.

When talking with Collider, Alicia Silverstone was asked her experience on the set of Batman and Robin and about the opportunity to suit up again.

“I like it when I get to do the fighting scenes with Uma Thurman, That’s fun. But I’d like to do it all over again as this woman! [Laughs] I think it would be much better now.”

Batman and Robin was set to have another sequel after it, but the idea was scrapped and eventually made way for the full reboot of the franchise with Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. There were talks of a solo Batgirl movie with Joss Whedon writing and directing the flick, however he ultimately dropped out of the project after being unable to find a way to break the story.

More recently screenwriter Christina Hodson, the mind and pen behind Bumblebee and this year’s Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, has been at work on a script for a solo Batgirl movie. So who knows? Maybe Silverstone will get her chance to be Batgirl again later down the road?
