After Parasite made history at yesterday’s 92nd Academy Awards, winning 4 out of its 6 nominations, and bagged the coveted Best Picture prize. It was the first time a foreign-language film achieved this milestone. The night also brought Director and Writer Bong Joon-ho 2 Oscars, one for Directing and one for Original Screenplay.

Following this monumental success, fans are looking forward to the announced Parasite miniseries, which will be streaming on HBO or HBO Max. And now it seems like we’ve got the first actor joining the cast: Mark Ruffalo.

Mark Ruffalo, Known Parasite?

Mark Ruffalo for Parasite

It seems that the 52 year old is currently being eyed for one of the lead roles. Collider stated in an new article that sources told them a week ago, but they kept it secret, “Out of respect for Parasite, and so as not to influence the Oscar voting”.

However, HBO has responded that, “The HBO limited series inspired by Parasite is in the early stages of development, and to speculate on any characters or casting is wildly premature.” So, it seems like we have to wait for an official casting announcement.

Bong Joon-ho recently said that plans will take shape in March, after he takes a break from all this awards season stress. Keeping this in mind, it seems that the 5 or 6 episode-long miniseries might be streaming in 2021, or maybe even in early 2022. This is just speculation, depending on how long the development and production of the series will take.

But in the meantime, Collider stated that multiple sources told them that Bong Joon-ho reached out to Mark Ruffalo and their is interest on both sides, while “official negotiations have yet to begin”.

Bong recently said, ” I had all these key ideas accumulated from when I started writing the script. I just couldn’t include all those ideas in the two-hour running time of the film, so they’re all stored in my iPad and my goal with this limited series is to create a six-hour-long film”. Parasite just reached 165 million dollars at the global box office, so I think there is definitely an audience for a limited Parasite series.
