John Cena Explains The Awesome “Legacy” Behind The Fast & Furious 9

John Cena Bumblebee Crime After Crime Grand Theft Lotto

In a recent interview, actor John Cena talks about his participation in the next Fast and Furious movie.

The Fast and Furious franchise has been a popular one with the masses since the first movie debuted back in 2001. Since then there’s been eight films, not including last year’s successful spin-off movie, Hobbs & Shaw. The movies launched Vin Diesel and Paul Walker into stardom, and have since welcomed many notable stars into the fold. The most recent of these names is none other John Cena (Playing With Fire) , who was announced to be joining Fast & Furious 9 back in June of 2019.

Cena is a perfect addition to the already thriving Fast & Furious franchise, with movies like Bumblebee and the upcoming The Suicide Squad under his belt. There’s still several months left before the movie hits theaters, so details are pretty slim, but many are speculating that Cena may be playing the villain. According to Vin Diesel’s Instagram, John Cena filmed his last day on October 10, 2019 during week sixteen of filming. While there isn’t any proof that Cena is a villain quite yet, considering that he was on set for sixteen weeks, we know he’ll at least be a significant character.

A tight knit family

John Cena Joins the Furious Family

In an interview Cena with Collider, he kept details extremely close to the chest, but he did reveal that he would be involved in at least one huge set piece. He was also full of praises for the crew on their professionalism and the set for its safety stating that “On film, I will cheat death but it’s so safe,” and adding that “I had no fear in any of the processes”. Cena also expressed admiration for the cast for their years of collaboration. Check it out:

Dude, that one [Fast & Furious 9] was awesome in many respects because this is a franchise, like a legacy franchise. The cast in that movie has essentially been working together for 20 years. It is a family environment and it is one that the world views as their family as well. They’re into the storyline, they’re into the characters, and they’re into this 20-year, eight- installment narrative that, in a lot of cases, [is defining]. This is a lot of what you’re known for in entertainment and what people come to expect.”

Everyone has been pretty tight-lipped so far, but The Fate of the Furious ended with the team in Russia averting a nuclear war. Charlize Theron, whose character Cipher got away at the end of the last film, will be returning to reprise her role, as well as Michelle Rodriguez (Widows), Tyrese Gibson (Morbius), Ludacris (Show Dogs), Helen Mirren (The Good Liar), and of course Vin Diesel (Bloodshot). While Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will sit this one out after an extremely public feud with series’ star Diesel. Whatever the case, there’s sure to be some clues in the next trailer.

The official trailer is set to debut on January 31, 2020 at a concert in Miami, Florida. Cardi B, Charlie Puth, Wiz Khalifa, Ozuna, and Ludacris are all expected to perform at the concert. (Cardi B and Ludacris are both appearing in the movie as well). Other cast members are also rumored be in attendance, which makes this a true Fast and Furious reunion, with a truly exciting event for fans. We will be sure to bring you all the latest once it’s made available to the public, so keep checking back at The Illuminerdi for more Fast and Furious news.

Fast & Furious 9 will be in theaters May 22, 2020. What type of role do you think Cena will have in the upcoming sequel? Let us know in the comment section below!
