Mark Hamill Wants To Join The Witcher Season 2

Could Mark Hamill play Vesemir in The Witcher Season 2? A year-old Twitter thread might spark an excellent casting decision for Netflix's hit show.

Those who have finished The Witcher‘s first season, now streaming on Netflix, caught a glimpse into Geralt’s (Henry Cavill) past. Without spoilers, let’s just say that Season 2 is sure to take viewers back to Kaer Morhen, the fortress in which Geralt trained to become a Witcher. And if fans are lucky, they just might meet Mark Hamill while they’re there.

As IGN pointed out, Mark Hamill responded to a fan on Twitter who suggested he partake in the show back in 2018. Which character should he play? None other than Vesemir, the oldest and most experienced Witcher at Kaer Morhen.

This is a great discovery for several reasons. First is that the conversation emerged from a Twitter thread by Lauren Hissrich, The Witcher showrunner, herself. She described Vesemir as:

“Fatherly.
Wise.
Sprightly (despite the fact that he’s…)
Ancient.
Historian-and-keeper-of-secrets-and-tales-and-trials-of-the-disappearing-caste-of-witchers-who-must-face-the-fact-that-the-world-is-changing-outside-Kaer-Morhen’s-walls-and-how-will-they-change-too?”

Mark Hamill In A Brave New Fantasy World

A wise father-figure who is also the keeper on ancient magical secrets sounds like the perfect role for Mark Hamill as he takes baby steps out of the Star Wars universe. At the very least, his time training Geralt was more successful than Luke’s training of Ben.

Aside from the fact that Hissrich’s vision of Vesemir seems to be right in Mark Hamill’s wheelhouse, he’s also got a head start because she must have seen his response. While he wasn’t up to date on Witcher lore back then, he could easily get caught up in time to film for Season 2 of the series.

There’s also a good bit of longevity in the role for him. Assuming the show does well enough for Netflix not to axe it, Vesemir would be part of both flashbacks and present-day sequences. This means that Mark Hamill would get plenty of mileage out of the role, both in terms of episode count and character development.

Would you like to see Mark Hamill as Vesemir? Or do you have a different The Witcher role in mind for him? Let us know in the comments below.
